85 Makeup Tips And Tricks

Makeup – something a woman can’t do without! We can hardly think of going out without using atleast one makeup product on our face, right? Either a kajal or a gloss, these things will definitely be in our bags, when we step out.
How about some basic Makeup Tips and Tricks for you?

Foundation:

  • A foundation evens out your skin tone and gives you the appearance of a flawless clear skin. But only if you apply it right! Otherwise you’ll mess up the whole usage of a foundation, making yourself look like a clown. So are you ready to know a few tips for the right application of foundation?
foundation application tips

  1. Analyse your skin type, tone and undertone to get a perfect color closer to your skin’s natural color.
  1. The application of a foundation can be done by using a brush, sponge or your fingertips. For more coverage, apply it with a sponge or a brush.
  1. Using a dabbing motion with the sponge or brush will give you enough coverage and deposition.
  1. Use a fluffy stippling brush to blend the foundation properly to avoid patchiness and a cakey effect.
  1. For the application of a foundation, start from the centre of your face and blend it outwards.
  1. Also, testing your foundation on your wrist never works as the skin tone of your hand could differ from that of your face.
  1. Pick up a few shades of foundation which are approximately closer to your skin tone, and with the help of a Q-tip, swatch the foundation around your jaw line (in between the face and the neck), and look out for the shade which is closest to your skin.

Concealer:

Whether dark circles are hereditary or occasional issues, concealers work best to make them lighter, if applied properly. Learn some tips on how to use them to your benefit.
concealer for dark circles

  1. Choose a concealer that is one shade lighter than your skin tone, depending on the undertone of your coverage area.
  1. Using an under-eye cream always works. It allows you to apply the product evenly and also reduces the appearance of dark circles.
  1. Use the concealer only on the areas where required.

Face Powder:

It is one of the most commonly used products as it very easily and quickly covers up any blemishes on the skin, giving it a smooth look. It absorbs the excess oil and grease from your skin, reducing the shine and making it look flawless.
face powder application

  1. You can either use a transparent or translucent powder to finish the look.
  1. Whether it is pressed or loose powder, match the color to your skin tone.
  1. Wear face powder over foundation or alone, whatever works best for you.
  1. Don’t leave any spot, including the eyes and the lips. Also use it on your neck, hairline and ears if possible.
  1. Blending is the key to perfect makeup. Make sure no fine lines are shown.
  1. Keep your brush and applicators clean. Change them when necessary so that the oil and dirt do not clog your pores, giving rise to irritation and infection.

Blush:

Use a blush to add a flush of colour and freshness to your face.
cream based blush

  1. Both powder & cream blushes are good options.
  1. Layering up the coats of the blush will make your blush last for hours and gives you intensity as well.
  1. Make sure your blush and bronzer blend into each other, or else they can leave sharp lines.
  1. The correct placement of the blush is on the apples, where you would naturally flush like if you had been running around.

Bronzer:

Bronze like a Pro! Bronzers are all about giving you a sun-kissed look.
bronzer tanning lotion tips

  1. Work the bronzer on the hollows of your face.
  1. Choose earthy browns over orange tones.

  1. To contour the eyes, use shades of brown/darker brown on the crease.
  1. When applying the darker color to your crease, make sure to blend it only on the outer edge. If you bring it closer to your eyes, they can look smaller.

Eyeliner:

Eyeliners are meant to define your eyes. They are an integral part of a makeup routine. They make your eyes appear bigger and make you look even more attractive. Some tips for a perfect eye look:
Eyeliner application tips

  1. You should extend the eyeliner slightly past the corners of your eyes for that cat look.
  1. Apply a white liner to the waterline of your bottom lid to make your eyes look brighter. But don’t overload the inside lid. You should apply it in such a way as if you do not have any on.
  1. Always apply the liquid liner after the eye shadow application. Allow it to dry before applying the mascara.
  1. You can achieve different shapes of eyeliner depending on your eye shape.
  1. The eyeliner application could be thick on the outer corner of the eye, slowly going thinner towards the inner corner.
  1. When applying the eyeliner, make sure that you apply it as close to the lashes as possible so that your skin doesn’t show up when the eye makeup is complete.
  1. If you want a softened eyeliner look, gently smudge the lines made using cotton buds or your finger or any makeup brush you have that has a swab-like tip.
  1. If the liner pencil is freshly sharpened, then you should soften its tip by gently rolling it across the back of your hand.
  1. To achieve an intense black liner, use a deep black eye shadow over the liner. This immediately intensifies your liner and makes your liner lasts long.
  1. If you do not like the sharpness of your eyeliner, you can soften it with the help of your eye shadow brush by adding a little powder shadow of a similar shade.

Kajal:

An eye makeup that has been used by both men and women for centuries, women have used “kohl” or “kajal” from the Egyptian era to accentuate their eyes and achieve a sultry and seductive look. The problem with kajal is that it smudges very easily. Let’s learn some tips to wear kajal the right way and how to make it smudge-free.
kajal application tips

  1. Kajal tends to smudge more for oily skin beauties. So, make sure you pat the eye area with either compact or face powder to make the area oil-free. The powder absorbs the excess kajal and prevents it from smudging.
  1. Another trick is to set your kajal with a black eye shadow – the powder absorbs the moisture/oils that cause the smudging and make it stay longer.
  1. Never touch or rub your eyes after applying kajal. An important trick to prevent smudging is applying a liquid liner below the kajal. The liquid liner dries up and acts as a wall which prevents the kajal from smudging. It also gives you a neat look.
  1. If you have extra oily eyelids, always keep ear buds in your bag for touch ups of smudging, as and when needed.

Mascara:

Those thick luscious lashes can make any man swoon on his knees! Learn some easy tips for mascara application.
mascara application tips

  1. After you have applied all your coats of mascara and let them dry completely, reload the wand and blink into the brush. The ends of your lashes will grab a few extra coats and grow to gorgeous lengths.
  1. Try this trick if you want thick lashes. After applying one or two coats of mascara, use an eye shadow brush to brush a coat of translucent powder on your lashes. The mascara will hold the powder making lashes look thicker.
  1. After the mascara gets dried up, use a tissue to blot any excess mascara / lumps on the eyelashes by gently holding it between the upper and lower eyelashes, close to the eyes and gently closing your eyes.
  1. Very often, mascara runs because it slides into concealers and/or eye creams. Prevent this by sealing them. Dusting a healthy layer of translucent powder under and over the eyes will do the trick.

tips for fuller lips

  1. Exfoliate your lips with a lip exfoliator or using a baby tooth brush, just rub your lips lightly to take off all the dead skin. This will make your lips softer and smoother, creating a new canvas to paint, making them look fuller.
  1. Now it’s time to line your lips. Using a neutral colour lip liner (something closer to your original lip colour or the lipstick you’ll use), line your top and bottom lip. Don’t exaggerate; draw the lines just a little above and bottom your original lip line.
  1. Now fill your lips with the same lip liner, except for the very centre of your lips.
  1. Now dab a little concealer on these left-out portions of your lips. Apply lipstick on your lips. The centre of your lips will look lighter due to the concealer, giving the illusion of fuller lips.
  1. Time for some gloss girls! Apply a light, shimmery gloss over your lips starting from the centre and blending it outwards. The gloss reflects light making your pout appear  fuller.
